Tank like a girl

As I mentioned in a previous posting, I didn’t go to my guild’s Karazhan day one. Day one is bosses from Attumen to Aran. We’re not close to clearing Karazhan in one day yet, so we try to clear to Aran in one day, and do the rest the next day.

Even when I don’t go, I have the habit of staring at the WWS report for hours, to find weaknesses and sources of improvement. This week I was particularly curious to see how the lesser geared protection warriors had fared.

And then I was flabbergasted when I noticed the amount of Crushing Blows both warriors ate, until I remembered that until I started tanking Kara, I hadn’t known the danger of crushes either.

What a touching moment today. Two protection warriors are going to Karazhan today in our guild’s raid, and none of them is me. May the ‘youngsters’ kick some ass. One of them was all excited about getting Steelweave enchant to cloak today, which made me groan, but I managed to stop her, and promised an enchant guide for prot warriors (applies to other tanking classes, in some cases).

I shouldn’t have made emo warrior images, it set the tone for my WoW day. My bubble burst today, and my biggest achievement in-game that I wanted to reach before WotLK is now too far out of reach. Our guild alliance is nixing the one raid time that I could have made (as I am nine hours ahead of server time I can only raid during the day, which no one does) and intended to make, as I need to kill Gruul and Magtheridon. Bye bye, Champion of the Naaru title.

I saw this forum posting a while back and wanted to respond to it here, but never got around to it until WoWInsider brought it up again when their authors ran out of content (the amount of stuff they snag from other blogs for recycling is like whoa. But then, guess I am doing the same right now, doh).

This wouldn’t be a tanking site if I didn’t have my very own version of a gear guide for fledgling protection warriors. The original version of my guide was written for my guild a while back, with this version I’ll do my best to have all slots up-to-date with new gear that’s now in-game.

As a note, all of the gear will be obtainable by either rep, normal 5-mans or crafters. I will not include badge gear or heroic drops, under the assumption you won’t tank them until Karazhan ready.

My WoW prime-time is the weekend. Especially given work last week I didn’t play much during the week. This usually means I tank bunches of instances on weekends, and on raid weekends I tank as well. This is just fine, because I enjoy tanking. However, lately I do enjoy my breaks to play other classes.

You know what feels good? To be the last one standing when a boss goes down. How’s that for a survivor mentality? Rawr. Witness Vexallus, in heroic mode Magister’s Terrace.

Sheesh, I need to redo my UI now, it looks super-messy on that screenshot.

There’s a reason I think Veneretio really rules my world (and he doesn’t even know it). His tanking blog postings are insightful and have helped me become a better tank. But then he has to go and prove that throwing weapons are better for pulling than guns. Why did he have to post this months after I got my stamina stick gun? Maybe I can pick up a Nightstrike sometime. My Felsteel Whisper Knives have no stamina, that would make me feel too gimp.
